Urban extension proposals for Blandford approved

Proposals for a mixed-use urban extension of Blandford Forum were strongly supported by Dorset Council’s Northern Area Planning Committee on 24th October 2023. NEW masterplanning was appointed by Wyatt Homes to lead the coordination of a masterplan for the site, which seeks to deliver a parkland vision for the 21st century with over 2,000 new trees and more than 40 acres of public open space (nearly 50% of the development). The proposed development will deliver the aims of the draft Blandford + Neighbourhood Plan, including the provision for a new primary school for north Blandford as well as community facilities, homes, and job opportunities. The approval comes after extensive engagement with officers, stakeholders, and the local community.

The hybrid proposals provide outline approval for 340 new homes and detailed approval for a first phase of 150 new homes with a new country park. Alongside the masterplan, NEW masterplanning led the preparation of the Design and Access Statement and a Strategic Design Code to guide future phases and implementation of the site vision. This work was highlighted in David Wyatt’s (CEO of Wyatt Homes) address to the planning committee, stating:  “We have worked extensively with Council officers to produce an application and masterplan of the highest calibre that has officer support.  This is backed up by a comprehensive Design and Access Statement and Strategic Design Code which are of exceptional quality”.
